What a fantastic way to finish off the term, with RUOK? Day and the first Year 7 disco. Students took part in a variety of fun activities for RUOK? Day that promoted positive conversations, such as playing board games, plane making, longest kick and PCG quizzes. The disco was a huge hit thanks to Xtreme Lighting- Brabham and June Orance- DJ. Students and staff danced the night away and had lots of fun in the photo booth. Wishing you all a relaxing and safe holiday break with students returning back to school on Tuesday 9th October.
STEAM Textiles
Year 7’s have been lighting it up in Textiles! In line with promoting STEAM at ASC, students were introduced to Electronic Textiles where electronic components, such as LEDs, are embedded into fabric. First they identified a client, generated some design ideas and then used a combination of machine and hand stitching to produce a light up bracelet. Students also looked into current and future uses of smart technology in textiles. We are very proud of their achievements!
AFLW visit – Kellie Gibson
AFLW great Kellie Gibson met with our girls’ AFL team for some motivation and questions before they headed off for the lightning carnival.
RUOK? Day Assembly
Today we celebrated student achievements with a year group assembly. Many students received awards for Respect, Responsibility, Perseverance and Appreciation. Congratulations also goes to Kiara Jenkins and Lachlan McCabe for receiving the House Points award. To kick off RUOK? Day tomorrow, School Psychologist Ms Alicia Wills spoke to the students at the assembly about checking in with your peers and having positive conversations to ensure they are feeling OK. ASC will celebrate RUOK? day tomorrow which will involve class quizzes, fun activities at lunch breaks and lots of positive conversations. Please remember it is an IT free day- students are not required to bring their devices to school tomorrow.
Project Based Learning
The students in 7.3 have been working tirelessly in Ms Monterosso’s Project Based Learning class to complete the popstick bridge challenge. They have worked in groups to research, design and create a bridge made out of a maximum 200 popsticks and glue. Whichever group creates the strongest bridge, tested after completion will win some prizes! Stay tuned…
Interhouse Athletics Carnival
It may have rained yesterday, but it didn’t dampen the spirits and energy of the students for our very first Athletics Carnival. Special thanks to our staff who worked tirelessly to prepare for the day, to the McCabe family with assistance of running the race tracks, parents who came to watch and students and staff who were 100% engaged. Well done on Quenda for taking out bragging rights for the carnival and to all other houses for amazing individual and team efforts.
A sample of the photos taken yesterday are below; there are so many great shots which will be included in our Year Book.
Carnival Houses
The Houses are ready to go. They are noisy excited and raring to go!
Youth Out Loud Competition
Emily and Jessica represented our school on Friday night at the Youth Out Loud Competition. The girls did a wonderful job, with a six minute speech on the topic of what “home” means to them. Emily made it through to the final and Jessica won the Encouragement Award. Well done girls.
