Congratulations to Mr Jeff Imrie who was successful in winning our Head of Technologies position at Aveley SC. Jeff’s experience and skills will assist this talented team of teachers to provide outstanding programs for students at the college.
We would like to thank Kirsten Horsting and her team at Ellenbrook Connect – Ellenbrook Community Christmas Appeal, for donating hampers to our ASC families that may be doing it tough through the holiday period. This generous contribution will ensure some of our ASC families are brought joy and cheer over this christmas period.
Today we hosted our ASC STEM day. All of our students had a great time, code-breaking, building their ultimate pop stick towers, investigating crime scenes and patient infections. Despite the heat, we all enjoyed a fun Friday.
Our children’s committee proudly presented a cheque to Sharon Gough from Indigo Junction to help homeless youth. The committed students facilitated by Jenny Brody from the Swan Alliance have met regularly after school to plan ways of helping other youth. The committee had a great discussion sharing information about Indigo Junction and the problem of homelessness.
We were very excited yesterday when local MLA Jessica Shaw announced the expansion of stage 2 at Aveley SC. The high demand for placements will be helped by an extra $4.2 million for a two-storey Senior School Learning Community. This will be in addition to the fantastic Visual Arts, Media, Music, Performing Arts and Lecture Theatre buildings that are currently going up rapidly. A part of Stage 2 has been brought forward and Learning Community 2 will be completed ahead of schedule in mid-2020. The rest of the buildings are due to be ready for 2021.
Introducing another great young talent, Jake. Who has demonstrated great relational skills in the classroom to engage students in their learning. We are really pleased to have him joining our English team.
Hi everyone! My name is Jake Smirk and I am very excited to be joining the team at Aveley Secondary College in 2020 as an English teacher.
I am very passionate about engaging and supporting student learning, particularly in guiding students to develop the reading and writing skills that will help them throughout their lives. I cannot wait to help my students grow and develop into enthusiastic learners who feel both safe and supported in the classroom, allowing them to achieve their full potential.
I’m looking forward to working with the staff, parents and, most importantly, the students to help the young members of our community grow and succeed both inside and outside of the classroom.
Introducing Shwetha who will be joining our Science team in 2020. Shwetha is another one of our incoming staff who have been highly recommended by their previous school and we are really pleased to have them joining us.
Hi, my name is Shwetha Pillay and I have recently joined the Aveley Secondary College community as a Science Teacher for 2020. I have previously taught at Cape Naturaliste College all the way in beautiful Vasse. I completed my Bachelor of Science, majoring in Anatomy and Human Biology at the University of Western Australia, and a Graduate Diploma of Secondary Education at Edith Cowan University. I am very passionate about teaching lower school Science and working with students to develop them socially, emotionally and academically. I look forward to collaborating with the Science team to deliver high quality science lessons that will spark the student’s curiosity and drive to learn. My goal is to give all students the ability to be scientifically literate, and provide them with skills that are adaptable within any industry they pursue in the future. I look forward to meeting all the staff, students and parents of the Aveley Secondary College community.

Hi everyone, my name is Rachel Elsegood and I’m so excited to be joining the HASS Department at Aveley Secondary College. I have 6 years of teaching experience from both the U.K and here in Perth at Gilmore College.
I love teaching HASS and believe that it is crucial we understand how the world around us functions, so we can take lessons from the past to ensure the footprint we leave behind is a positive one. I’m very passionate about sustainability and finding new ways to reduce our overall impact on the planet. My goal as a teacher is to help each student work to the best of their abilities and facilitate a safe space for this to happen in. I’m look forward to meeting you all at the start of 2020!

A warm hello to the Aveley SC community! My name is Rachel Lamb, and I am so pleased to be joining Aveley SC in 2020. I have bachelor degrees in law and humanities from the University of Western Australia, and I completed my Graduate Diploma of Education (specialising in HASS and English as a Second Language) in 2017. I am a lawyer, and I have previously taught English at Melville SHS.
Introducing Lee who will be heading up our Visual Arts program at the College. Lee has exceptional skills in photography and fine art and this translates to high quality work from students. We are really excited to have him join our team.
Hi, my name is Lee Whitmarsh and I am really looking forward to joining Aveley Secondary College and Ellenbrook community as a Visual Art and Photography teacher.
I have moved to Australia from the UK in which I was an Art and Photography teacher for the past 13 years. I also had the privilege of leading the Creative Arts and Art, Design and Technology Faculties in my previous school.
I love teaching art and photography and I believe the arts are the heart and soul of the local community. I can not wait to be part of the brilliant Arts team; providing all students with an exciting, dynamic and creative Visual Arts curriculum.
I am looking forward to building upon the excellent arts provision already in place and working with students, parents, staff and the local community to celebrate and promote the creativity of Aveley Secondary College students.
