The weather was hot and so was the competition today for our swimming carnival. Well done to all our competitors and Tammar on their first carnival win. ????????
Year 7 WACA Cricket Clinics
Some of our Year 7 PE classes have had a visit from the WACA who have run some cricket clinics. The students have learnt some new skills and had heaps of fun doing so. There is also an opportunity for girls wanting to play in an after school cricket competition run by the Perth Scorchers at the Ellenbrook District Open Space (EDOS). Any girls that are interested need to ask Mr Daniells for further information.
Year 7 Smartriders
Our new Year 7 Smartriders have arrived and have been given to students during their home room period today. A handy Transperth leaflet is attached for your information.
Year 7 Meet & Greet
What a great turn out to our meet and greet tonight, followed by an information session about our direct instruction program and other interventions for literacy and numeracy. Wonderful to see such great support from our parent body.

Our annual Swimming Carnival is coming up!

Our carnival will take place at Terry Tyzack Aquatic Centre, Inglewood from 10 am – 2 pm on the 25th February.
Last years event was great fun. Staff and students are looking forward to participating and gaining lots of house points – let the race begin!
2019 Yearbook Update
Yearbook Update – The 2019 Yearbook is currently at the printers and is looking great. There are so many wonderful of photos of students throughout the year. Copies will be available early this term.
Term 1 Academy Program
Our Term 1 Academy Program is about to commence with available sessions posted through QKR! from next week. Classes will commence from Monday 24 February. There are some wonderful sessions to pick from this term including: cross country, netball, soccer, music, media and Minecraft. Thanks to our teachers for providing such a range of opportunities for our students.
Explicit Direct Instruction workshop with Joe Ybarra
Our teachers are so committed to providing excellence in the classroom they filled the conference room at the Vines Resort last Sunday for an Explicit Direct Instruction workshop with Joe Ybarra from Dataworks USA. This professional development opportunity continued this week with two days observation and coaching in the classroom from Joe and another whole staff meeting to discuss lesson delivery. We would like to acknowledge our staff who gave up their well earned weekend to increase their knowledge and pedagogy for our students’ learning.
Introducing Gary Hopkins
Introducing Gary Hopkins who is another amazing addition to our Technology Team. Gary has extensive experience in a range of educational contexts and part of this role was to assist teachers improve Learning Conditions in their classrooms. We are delighted to have Gary join us.
Hi, my name is Gary Hopkins and I am really looking forward to joining the team at Aveley Secondary College and the Ellenbrook community as a Design and Technology teacher.
I have experience teaching in a wide variety of contexts including remote teaching in the Kimberley, Goldfields regions and in a large metropolitan school. I have taught Primary, Secondary and worked in Behaviour and Engagement centres. I believe all students can achieve success and I will work hard to develop the necessary skills and knowledge for students to succeed in Design and Technology at Aveley Secondary College.
