Introducing David Gellé who is a qualified civil engineer joining our Science team in 2021. David is experienced in the oil and gas industry and will provide expertise around physics content for our students.

Hello Aveley Secondary College Community! My name is David Gellé and I will be joining the Aveley Science Department at the start of 2021. I first studied at the University of Western Australia, and was awarded a Masters with Distinction in Civil Engineering. I went on to work as a Civil Engineer, particularly on oil and gas pipelines and subsea structures. I made a career change into teaching, and am hopeful, through this opportunity at Aveley Secondary College, to encourage students to pursue excellence and foster a culture of life-long learning.

I am looking forward to getting to know everyone and becoming part of the Aveley Community in 2021.

Vassy is a great new addition to our Science team, with her wealth of experience and knowledge particularly in the field of Chemistry. With her PHD and practical industry related experience her appointment will be wonderful for our budding scientists.

Hi, my name is Vassy Rudrum, and I’m thrilled to be joining Aveley Secondary College as a science teacher in 2021. I obtained my Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) and Bachelor of Science (Chemistry, Honours) at Curtin University. I then stayed on and completed a Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry. I was employed as an academic at Curtin University’s Department of Chemistry for 6 years, a role I thoroughly enjoyed. I taught hundreds of students during my tenure, all from diverse backgrounds and enrolled in various undergraduate degrees. I then went on to work at a chemistry research organisation for over 4 years, where I created new pharmaceutical drugs for a number of high profile clients.

I look forward to teaching and promoting science at Aveley Secondary College within its wonderful facilities. I want to show my students the power of a good quality education, to aim high and have pride in their work.

Introducing another one of our amazing teachers joining our team. Emma Boyd is an experienced physical education teacher, and will also be our Year 7 Coordinator for 2021. Emma’s experience and skills are a great addition for the College.

Hi everyone, my name is Emma Boyd and I will be joining the Physical Education team and will also be the 2021 Year 7 Coordinator. I grew up around the Ballajura and Ellenbrook area but for the last 6 years have been working in Pinjarra. After graduating high school at Ballajura Community College, I became a Personal Trainer. I studied and gained my Bachelor of Education and majored in Health and Physical Education and minored in Outdoor Education. I have played an extensive number of sports but found my passion in Basketball and AFL. I have played for both Swan Districts and East Perth over the past 10 years. I am excited to become part of the Aveley team and look forward to meeting all students in 2021.

Congratulations to Mathematics teacher Ash Jeeloll, who has won the Ellenbrook Central People’s Choice Award with his pastel artwork “Kaa-Kaa”.

Mr Jeeloll creates art in his spare time, and he is delighted to have won the prize this year. Mr Jeeloll has been entering the Ellenbrook Arts Awards for four years now. “Kaa-kaa” in Noongar means kookaburra because of the call it makes. He is passionate about creating artwork that portrays animals and the landscape in a positive light.

The People’s Choice Award goes to the artwork displayed at Ellenbrook Arts HQ, that gets the most public votes, making “Kaa-kaa” the most popular piece this year, from a huge range of over one hundred excellent artworks.

The People’s Choice Award is sponsored by Ellenbrook Central.

It is not just our teaching staff that is expanding, Alison Northwood started with our Corporate Services team this term in Student Services Reception and we are looking forward to further utilising her skills and knowledge to support the college.

Hi, my name is Alison and I am excited to be joining the Corporate Services team on a permanent basis. I have varied administrative experience through previous positions in international education, the construction industry and the financial sector, plus provided admin support to staff and lecturers in a university Law School while completing my own Bachelor of Education (Primary). I’m fortunate to be able to tie all this experience into my role at Aveley Secondary College and support the staff and students that I will be working with each day. I recently moved to the Aveley area with a young family so am looking forward to growing with the school as new students enrol each year.

Yesterday we hosted the FIRST Lego League Regional Competition in conjunction with Curtin University’s STEM outreach team. We welcomed 12 teams from public and private schools who all put up outstanding skills and creative robots. Unfortunately our teams did not qualify for the state competition, despite displaying tremendous determination, although they all had a wonderful time challenging themselves!

Aveley Secondary College will be hosting our annual Arts Festival on Tuesday 15 December in our new Performing Arts building. This event is a celebration showcasing students’ work in areas of Dance, Music, Drama, Visual Art and Media and includes an exhibition and performance. Tickets for the performance are limited to two per family due to limited capacity.

Today is International Day of People with Disability. IDPwD is a United Nations observed day celebrated internationally that aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and celebrate their achievements and contributions.

The theme this year is “Building Back Better: toward a disability-inclusive, accessible and sustainable post COVID-19 World”.

Aveley Education Support students will be performing at Ellenbrook Library at 11am.

With the new Arts and Theatre facilities coming on board ready for 2021, it is an exciting time to have our Drama specialist join the team. We take pleasure in introducing Josh Lang. Josh has experience with lower and secondary Drama curriculum as well as extensive performance in his own right. He creates very unique opportunities and productions for students and we are excited for what this will add for the College.

Hi guys, my name is Josh Lang and I will be running Drama at Aveley SC. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts from Curtin University where I specialised in theatre and film-making, then went on to study education at Edith Cowan University. My background in theatre, working as an actor for several local theatre companies, and several appearances on TV game shows have given me a wealth of practical performance experience. I look forward to sharing this experience with Aveley Drama students and working toward producing some amazing pieces of theatre to share with the local community.

Jason is a great young talent who will be joining us next year. He has recently completed his scholar in residence program and has established great ties with our staff and students. We are pleased to have him in our HASS team.

Hello everyone, my name is Jason Udy, and I will be joining the HASS department for the 2021 school year. My background is in Economics and Business, having completed a Bachelor of Business for my undergraduate qualification. I have worked in marketing and communications, led social enterprise programs, and promoted the tertiary study of business and law to high school students. I recently completed a Master of Secondary Teaching at ECU and was able to complete my final teaching placement at Aveley Secondary College. I have also conducted research into the ASC way of teaching and was fortunate to be able to learn from the excellent teaching staff around the school.

In my personal life, I play and coach soccer. I have been with my club for 20+ years, and I hope I can help to develop the players involved with the school’s extracurricular program where possible. I have had a great time meeting the staff and students at ASC this year, and I am looking forward to coming back in 2021 as part of the ASC community.
