The Visual Art Aspirations Squad was designed to allow prospective Year 10 students to experience the ATAR Visual Art course by responding to a given theme and developing their art practice. Ms Mckechnie has been running this course on Tuesday afternoon with 16 students who are currently producing excellent artworks in response to their design development. This course will continue into Term 3 to support students with the transition into Upper School. We are very proud of the quality and concepts being explored in these artworks and look forward to displaying the completed products in future exhibitions.
Netball High School Cup
Last week we had three teams represent our College in the Netball High School Cup. Leading up to this day we had already had some challenges: the carnival was postponed three times, and heavy rainfall predicted for the day.
But the students all took this in their stride by turning up to after-school trainings and arriving bright and early on the carnival day. Our three teams showed immense responsibility and enthusiasm on the day, combatting the initial rainfall with smiles. The sun then came out, and the students continued to show determination.
Congratulations to our Middle School A team and Junior School A team who were both undefeated! Our Middle School B team played very well on the day and showed great sportsmanship. The two teams who were undefeated will progress to the Elimination Day Carnival.
Bi-planes
Our Technologies Department have been teaching the Year 10’s the skills and techniques required to make bi-planes. Our students have told Mr Imrie they love making this project and there are so many bi-planes that the classroom is starting to look like an airport under construction!
NCCD
Our school is part of a national project about students with disability and or learning difficulties, called the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD). We have been asked to provide data about the number and types of learning needs of students at our school. As part of the collected data, individual students and schools are not identified.
The project aims to collect information about differing student needs. It also looks at the levels of intervention in place such as the programs and resources the school has utilised so that students can overcome barriers, participate and learn. We believe it is important to contribute to this project because it will help inform Government and the Education Department about level of resources needed in schools.
Grazing Table Delights
This term in Catering & Café Culture, our Year 10s have worked hard to plan and produce a class Grazing Table featuring a range of different hor d’oeuvres. The students researched the relevance of catering, shortlisted their own recipes and worked independently to produce their chosen finger food. We are very excited to introduce the Certificate II in Hospitality for Year 11 students next year and this showcases what is yet to come!
Student Voice
The second student voice nomination we would like to share for this round is for Ms Tough. Casey is a graduate from the prestigious Teach for Australia program and has proved to be an outstanding teacher. She has opted to take on classes for students that require additional learning support and makes a real difference for her students.
“Ms Tough has helped me get better with my English. I would like to thank you for helping me improve my English skills and making me more confident within myself. At the start of this program I never thought I would be able to read but now I’m confident when I read in front of the class and raising my hand to answer questions. So thank you!”
Interschool Soccer
Last week our junior interschool soccer teams competed against Mercy College. Our junior girls team defeated Mercy College 9-1 and our junior boys match up resulted in a very respectable draw 2-2. We are very proud of all of our teams’ effort and dedication and the excellent sportsmanship they show when representing the College.

Taiko Academy
Our Taiko Japanese drumming academy is in full swing. When the weather allows it they have been practicing outside and the beat of their drumming pulses through the whole school. We love how the different academies on offer challenge our students to explore all of their senses.
