The Year 8 AEP English students spent the day in the library, working in teams to write an entire book from start to finish!

To get in the zone, students wore comfy couch clothes and worked within their groups to create a story as part of the ‘Write a Book in a Day’ challenge. The students prepared for the challenge in their English lessons, focusing on character and plot development, illustrating, and even designing a book cover.

All proceeds from their hard work will go towards raising funds for children’s cancer research.

Last week our school embraced Bullying No Way Week. Students in Years 7-10 were inspired by a powerful guest speaker from Armed for Life, who shared invaluable insights on combating bullying and fostering empathy.

Our Middle School Student Leaders took charge by organising a range of impactful activities and events centred around the theme of bullying prevention and empathy, aligning with the Resilience Project’s core values.

During lunch breaks, a number of activities were held, including bracelet making, photo booths, games and thrilling ping pong playoffs, as well as a guest appearance by DJ Franchina!

Our Year 11 Student Leaders had an incredible experience recently at Parliament House in Perth. They toured the Legislative Assembly and Council, learned about the history of WA Parliament, and watched a live session from the visitor’s gallery.

The day was topped off with an a la carte lunch with Jessica Shaw MLA, Member for Swan Hills, where they discussed issues facing young people today. It was a unique opportunity that gave our students a fascinating insight into how Parliament operates, and may even spark an interest for them to become future leaders in WA Parliament.

We were proud to present our Year 11 & 12 Dance students, as well as ASC’s Dance Squad in the School to Stage Competition recently.

Facing extremely tough competition from some of WA’s top Performing Arts programs, our students really held their own and the feedback from the judges stated just that.

Their teachers, Ms Liddle and Ms Stone want to commend our students on their professionalism both on and off the stage and for their tremendous efforts in the lead up to such a fierce competition. We look forward to next year’s efforts!

Another group of our Year 10 students had the opportunity to attend Motivation Foundation’s Civil Construction Try-a-Trade, involving three days of practical work in a simulated work environment operating CAT machines and completing a concreting activity.

Students completed startup safety checks for Civil Construction machinery, which then allowed them to drive and operate them in a controlled environment. Students also learnt the art of ‘boxing up’ concrete form work, pouring and finishing a section of concrete path.

We’re thrilled with the level of student interest in try-a-trade courses, however it does exceed available places, so selections are made from known student interest and pathway readiness.

Our school had the pleasure of presenting a magical rendition of Alice in Wonderland this term.

Directed by Samantha Voak (Head of the Arts), the production brought the whimsical world of Wonderland to life on our stage and was a great success.

A heartfelt thank you to all the staff, students and families that contributed to the production and came along to support our students in their artistic endeavours.

Year 12 ATAR Geography students recently visited the Red Hill Waste Management Facility as part of their study on waste management in Perth.

They attended an informative presentation by the Waste Education Officer from the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) and toured the facility.

During the visit, they learned about initiatives such as food organics green organics (FOGO) processing.

This experience highlighted the importance of waste recovery and recycling in reducing Perth’s landfill waste.

Our students recently took part in the Waterwise Experience, which was an immersive incursion using silent disco-like technology, run by Water Coorporation!

Through interactive audio-led stories, students explored the critical role of water in our world, travelling through arid landscapes, jetting into space, and viewing Perth city from new angles.

This unique experience highlighted the importance of water and sustainability, showing our students that everyone can make a difference.

Our Year 10 Sport Elite students did a fantastic job helping at the Ellenbrook Interschool Cross Country event recently.

The Year 10s helped direct students around the course, ran warm-ups and encouraged the runners to keep going.

The weather was fantastic and there was a great atmosphere among all the schools competing.

The organisers spoke highly of the ASC students and are keen to have them back next year.

Our Year 9 Academic Extension Program and HASS extension students enjoyed a day at Kings Park Education Centre, enhancing their geographical skills.

In the ‘Senior Orienteering’ session, students learned map reading and navigation, discovering unique plants along the way.

During the ‘Bushland Carers’ session, they conducted fieldwork for seed conservation programs and designed tests to study germination barriers.

This hands-on experience underscored the importance of the south west of WA as an international biodiversity hotspot.
