Close to 200 students took on the 2km course around the DOS for our 2021 Cross Country Carnival last term. Curlew took out the honors for the day as the victorious house. Congratulations to all of our individual winners and to all staff and students involved.
Gladiators At Work
What better way to learn about Ancient Rome than to have a Gladiator as your teacher. Mr Udy delighted our Year 7’s recently when he arrived in class in the attire to match the new program of work.
Deconstructing Computers
Students in our RTS program have been learning about the inner workings of computers by taking them apart and re-building them with interesting modifications. They have learnt the function of all the important parts of a computer and how to safely and correctly handle each component.
Congratulations Boblexie
Congratulations to Boblexie Tyson, the new reigning Little Miss Western Australia 2021. The WA based pageant focuses on promoting an advocacy, supporting a charity or raising awareness for a cause. Judging is based on confidence on stage, participants’ behaviour and treatment towards fellow contestants, organisers and other people involved in the event. What a wonderful achievement!
Photography
Year 10 Photography students have been exploring creative use of exposure and focus. Students are creating their own photographic content that they will use to construct a photography website. We are very impressed with the level of skill and creative use of light that the students have demonstrated using the DSLR cameras.
Designing Hoodies
In Fashion and Design Workshop our Year 10 students have completed their first task of making hoodies. Students have learned how to interpret and use commercial patterns, accurately cutting fabric and garment construction by using a sewing machine. Next term they are going to add their own logos and designs using our Scan n Cut machine!
Youthfest
Aveley SC’s Drama Club represented the College at Youthfest, a youth theatre festival. The students put on an incredible show and thoroughly entertained the audience and judges with their performance of ‘The Worst Breakups of All Time’.
Emily Copley (Year 10) and Sam Vermeer (Year 7) were acknowledged for their individual efforts and characterisation with some adjudicators certificates, and Tarah Kemp (Year 10) was awarded a medal for Best Stage Manager. Every student involved did an amazing job and made Mr. Lang very proud.
Wear Your Colours for a Cause
This Friday 24 September, the last day of Term 3, students are encouraged to wear their favourite sporting shirt, guernsey or jersey to promote ‘wear your colours for a cause’ for a gold coin donation.
This will be a fantastic way to finish off the term and timely with the lead up to the AFL Grand final at Optus Oval.
Students must still wear ASC bottoms, socks and shoes. Sleeveless tops are permitted, however undershirts with short sleeves must be worn underneath.
Art Gallery Exhibition
A selected group of Year 7 and 8 students have been working tirelessly on a series of oil paintings as part of a collaboration project with the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery. The final step is showcasing their paintings in a group exhibition with four other schools. The Exhibition opening was held last weekend and was fantastic, our student work was prominently displayed and the passion of everyone involved shone brightly.
Our student’s creations will be on display at the exhibition 16-25 September. The Gallery is open 12-5pm Tuesdays to Saturdays. We are delighted by the quality of their work and know our students would love for you to see their creations at the Gallery.
Elephant Toothpaste Experiment
Year 8 students are beginning to learn about the differences between chemical and physical changes. Many students have had the opportunity to observe a chemical change by adding yeast to hydrogen peroxide and detergent. This results in a foaming reaction, which students can add colour to for extra effect! Although the foam looks like toothpaste, you sure wouldn’t want to brush your teeth with it!
