Student Voice: Ms Keenan
As part of our student voice initiative students are offered the chance to acknowledge the exceptional efforts and commitment of our staff. We had so many wonderful nominations this Semester that it was very difficult to pick just two staff appreciation nominations to highlight. Ms Keenan is one of our wonderful Mathematics teachers who received some very thoughtful nominations.
“Dear Ms Keenan, you are really kind and you’ve helped almost everyone that has been in your class. You’re an awesome teacher and make everyone smile. I’m very thankful for having you as my math teacher and I’m sure everyone else is thankful as well.”
Academies
Our last academies of the year are in full swing with students enjoying some new opportunities such as Origami, Four Square and Circus, along with the ever popular Minecraft, Basketball and Anime academies.
Covid Vaccination Program
Aveley Secondary College will be involved in the COVID vaccination process recently announced by the Minister for Education. Students have been issued with information about the vaccination and consent forms. If you need a new form please ask us.
Please return your consent forms by Tuesday 9 November if you would like your child to participate in the vaccination program.
This is an opportunity to help our school be safe. Please help us achieve a high vaccination rate.
World Teacher’s Day
Today is World Teacher’s Day and we want to acknowledge our amazing teachers here at ASC. Teachers (with support from parents and carers) have ensured education continues across the country this year, despite major challenges. It’s reinforced the significant role teachers play in the lives of children and students, their families, and communities.
Our student voice nominations, where students thank teachers and a student’s thoughtful initiative were sweet treats for our teachers today. It is wonderful to see our students recognise and appreciate our teaching staffs’ amazing support and commitment to their wellbeing.
Interschool Athletics Carnival
The Interschool Athletics Carnival took place on Tuesday 26 October at the State Athletics Centre. The team put on a dominant performance especially in the 100m and relay races. This resulted in ASC winning the G division carnival by over 150 points from the second placed team. This makes it back to back wins in the Interschool Athletics as we progress up to higher divisions. Congratulations to all students involved and a big thank you to the HPE team for their dedication and commitment to the athletics training and carnival.
Music Program
We have a thriving music program at Aveley with lots of musically talented students who contribute to our school community.
Just a reminder if your child wants to be part of our IMMS Music program for Year 7 2022 that applications close tomorrow Tuesday 26 October. Enrolled parents have been emailed the application form however hard copies are also available in the front office.
Try A Trade
Several students had the exciting opportunity to go to the College of Electrical Training in Joondalup as part of their Try a Trade program. This was an excellent chance for the students to gain skills and exposure towards a career in the electrical trade.
WA Museum Boola Bardip
There were lots of excursions and activities occurring at the College towards the end of last term. One of these was a visit to the WA Museum Boola Bardip, for the AEP class where they were encouraged to interact with the exhibits and attended a hands-on workshop.
The visit to the museum was fascinating and there were so many different exhibitions to try and get to.
WA Mental Health Week
In honour of WA Mental Health Week 2021’s theme ‘mental health starts with our children’ we want to recognise our brilliant Youth Workers who focus on supporting our young people’s mental health.
Amy and Shamus provide our students with general support for a large variety of needs including mental health, social and emotional wellbeing, personal development, attendance, school belonging and engagement. In addition to providing our students with support for most day-to-day concerns, our Youth Workers also refer and connect our students and families to external supports when needed. Amy and Shamus work closely with our Teachers, Year Coordinators and Psychologist to ensure a holistic approach and high standard of support is always provided.
