Our Year 11 Certificate II Hospitality students have been enjoying our new commercial kitchen facility. They have made a strong start and this week prepared Fruit Tarts from scratch. They created a sweet pastry, crème patisserie filling and topped with fruit and an apricot glaze. Soon they will begin learning how to operate our coffee machine to produce barista style coffees.
Smartriders
Smartriders have been ordered for all new students this week. They should arrive in the next week or so and will be given to students in Homeroom. Current students that have lost their Smartrider can order replacement cards from the front office for $5. Whilst you wait for your child’s Smartrider to arrive you will need to buy tickets using cash.
Transperth have several resources you can use to help your child learn how to use public transport including their Journey Planner and Get on Board website.https://www.transperth.wa.gov.au/Journey-Plannerhttp://getonboard.transperth.wa.gov.au/
Welcome Back
Our term has started smoothly, we welcomed our Year sevens, new and returning students, and were pleased to see our students happy to be here and being Covid safe.
Our Zuludesk installation is also underway! Thank you to our IT Technician who has been very busy uploading Zuludesk onto new student iPads. Any new student iPads that arrive later in the term can take their device to the front office for Zuludesk installation.
FIRST Lego League
Aveley had the opportunity to host, for two consecutive years, the regional competition of the FIRST Lego League. Twenty three amazing teams came to compete with their Lego robots and wow the judges with their innovative ideas. Students spent hundreds of hours coding, designing and building a Lego robot, as well as researching, planning and rehearsing their innovation presentation to solve real world problems.
Aveley had three teams who finished in the top seven with one of our teams doing extremely well, finishing second overall and had the opportunity to represent in the state finals where they showed great determination and skill to finish 20th out of 48 teams. It was a fantastic result, the students finished the day exhausted but thrilled with their robot’s performance.

Sports Elite Parent Night
The Sports Elite Program parent information session took place during Term 4 with all of our new students and their parents attending to find out more about the program. We were also lucky enough to have some of our current Year 10 SEP students stop by to talk to the group and explain how the program has benefitted them. We are excited to have all of our new elite athletes joining the program next year.
End of Year Assemblies
On Tuesday 14 December we held our end of year assemblies, where we celebrated the numerous achievements of our students. Each assembly recognized an array of academic achievements, in total over 160 students were acknowledged for their efforts and outstanding results. Other awards included our Mutual Agreements (respect, responsibility, appreciation and perseverance), Year Coordinator, Attendance and other external awards.
The assembly was a fabulous way to see our students shine, congratulations to our award winners.
Student Achievement
Congratulations to Year 10 student Max Ellis on his National Wrestling Competition win.
Max won gold in the Youth Freestyle Wrestling Nationals in the boys 15 year old 60kg division, also defeating the 14-15 year old boys in the 56kg division and the 15-16 year old boys in the 75kg division. Max is working towards his goal of representing Australia in the 2024 Youth Olympic Games. We are very proud of the dedication and commitment that Max displays towards meeting his goals.
Food From Around The World
Recently our Year 9 Food From Around The World students completed their final practical assessment, which demonstrated the skills they have developed over the semester. They made an Italian Bruschetta, which they plated and photographed in our miniature food styling studio. Samples of Bruschetta as well as lots of other finger foods made by our students were available at the ASPIRE Showcase.
