Our fantastic General Year 11 Visual Art students have investigated celebrity culture, social media activism and portraiture inspired by the artwork of Kehinde Wiley this semester. Students have worked on wooden panels using pencil to create these outstanding portraits!
The Aveley Way
This week visitors came to observe best practice in teaching and learning. On Tuesday schools from the Fogarty Edvance program visited, followed by two days with the Grattan Institute, a leading research group, observing as part of a case study for effective whole-school teaching and learning. Both groups were very impressed by the Aveley Way!
Year 7 Economics
Year 7 Home Economics classes have been investigating different healthy breakfast recipes, using the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating to identify ingredients to create their meal. The students came up with some great options.
Try A Trade
Another successful 3 Day Try a Trade in association with Skillhire and CTF Construction Training Fund.
All the students were overjoyed to experience our 3 day Try a Trade program in our state of the art Aveley Trade Centre. Students were able to try their hand at Carpentry, Brickwork and Paving to see if a construction pathway is what they intend to do in the future. It also links into our very successful Scholarship Program here at Aveley SC.
Student Voice: Jason Udy
As part of our student voice initiative students are offered the chance to acknowledge the exceptional efforts and commitment of our staff. We had so many wonderful nominations this Semester that it was very difficult to pick just two staff appreciation nominations to highlight. Mr Udy is one of our wonderful HASS teachers who received some very thoughtful nominations.
“There are very few teachers who can connect with and are as respected by your students. If I was to write about everything you have done to help me I would have a novel. You have helped me more than any other teacher and I wouldn’t have gotten this far without you. Thank you so much for everything.”
Term Dates
Just a reminder that this Friday 3 June is a Staff Development Day and Monday is a public holiday. Students return Tuesday 7 June. Wishing everyone a safe and happy long weekend.

In-house Staff Cafe
Our Year 11 Hospitality students have spent the last term becoming baristas and expert food handlers in preparation for our in house staff Café. Last week we conducted our first service period with a group of excited teachers, who were keen to get their hands on our coffee and croissant deal. We had rave reviews and are excited to see what our students serve up next!
