On Monday 24 October, 60 students represented the College at the Interschool Athletics Carnival. We finished second overall with Lachlan in Year 11 winning Champion Boy, Perez placing Runner Up in Year 10 and Michael winning Runner Up Boy in Year 7. A great day all around. We can’t wait to attend again next year when we enter a higher division.
Last Friday 28 October was World Teachers’ Day. The theme this year was ‘Hats off to teachers’. The theme represents teachers’ great resilience over the past few years while continuing to focus on teaching and learning. Our goal has always been to select the best quality staff who deliver exemplary teaching and learning so it is an honour to show them our appreciation.
We recognised our amazing teaching staff through a morning tea, with cupcakes, where they were given the kind messages from the Student Voice nominations.
Year 9 students have been seizing the opportunities provided by the Career Taster Program. So far, 23 students have taken part in hands on informative career experiences designed to help them explore the wide variety of career pathways available.
Students have engaged with North Metro TAFE’s “Song Factory”, Stanley College’s “Experience ICT” and North Metro TAFE’s “Art and Photography” Tasters.
Coming up over the next few weeks another 90 students will have the opportunity to take part in Tasters for dentistry, engineering, forensics, marine biology, wildlife conservation and drones.
Congratulations to our staff on another win over the students at the end of term Staff Vs Students netball competition. It was well received by the students and they are already asking for a rematch.
Last term’s Sewing Academy had students spending their afternoons working on any sewing project that interested them. Popular creations included “DIY Oodies” as well as smaller projects such as bucket hats and tie dye samples. We look forward to seeing what our students create this term as Academies return this week. Don’t forget to sign up on Qkr as places are limited!
A Year 7 & 8 inclusive student disco will be held Friday 4 November, 6pm to 8pm in the Performing Arts Theatre. The theme this year is “All Things SPOOKY”. Students are encouraged to dress up in fancy dress and prizes will be awarded for the most creative costumes. The cost of the disco is $10 and can be paid via the school Qkr App or through the front office.
An email outlining the details of the disco has been sent out to all Year 7 & 8 parents.
Our students recently competed in the FIRST Robotics Competition’s West Australian Regional Playoffs. Congratulations are due as they finished third in the qualification stage and then third overall, narrowly missing the final by literal centimetres. The students started designing and building their robot in March and have spent many hours refining and testing their creation. The robot will be on show at this year’s ASPIRE showcase where you can have a go at driving and shooting basket-ball hoops with it.

We are delighted to share with you a wonderful opportunity for our Visual Arts students to be part of this year’s Ellenbrook Youth Exhibition. Their artwork will be exhibited at the Ellenbrook Art Gallery, 34 Main St, Ellenbrook.
The opening night of the exhibition is Friday 23 September, and the evening starts at 5pm and runs to 8pm at the Ellenbrook Art Gallery. It is a free event and aims to celebrate the talent of our local young people. We hope the students are as proud of the way they have creatively engaged with Visual Arts this year as we are, and we are looking forward to celebrating this achievement with the wider local community.
We would like to congratulate the students for their commitment and dedication to the Arts and for helping us celebrate the end of Term 3 with such a positive showcase of their work.

Recently we had a visit from ECU Home Economics Coordinator Sandy Smith, who was interested in observing our practical teaching practices, especially the Explicit Direct Instruction.
During her visit, Sandy was very pleased to see that participation and engagement in these classes was very strong, as students were really enjoying the class, which aligned with the teaching strategies used.
Sandy praised our exemplary teachers’ skills, with strong role modelling for students, including guided practice and use of classroom IT. It was evident all lessons had been carefully and thoroughly prepared to maximise students’ learning and class time.
