Our final teacher recognised via the Student Voice process this Semester is Keelan Evans. Mr Evans is an engaging and knowledgeable Digital Technologies teacher who received some very thoughtful nominations, including the below:
“Thank you for introducing me to the world of computer languages and programming in a fun and straightforward way. A very entertaining teacher and a great class.”
To celebrate the end of the Semester, Middle School held an assembly where they recognised the outstanding academic achievements of our students. This was followed by a Principal’s morning tea for the award winners. Congratulations and keep up the great work!

Another student voice nomination we would like to share for this round is for Rebecca Thomas, one of our wonderful Visual Art teachers who received some very thoughtful nominations.
“One of the best teachers in the school, she’s so relatable and I love how she critiques my art without making it sound like I’ve done everything wrong. She’s amazing and incredibly skilled with her works and I believe she helps students improve in their art skills. Ms Thomas is easy to talk to and is definitely someone I look up to, if I decide to pursue some kind of career in Arts I think I’ll look to her teachings and Arts as my No. 1 inspiration.”

The Year 11 General Geography class recently met with Kate Sputore from Perth Natural Resource Management (NRM) who oversees coastal management plans along the coast in Perth.
The class visited Scarborough Beach to learn about one of their current projects, weeding and revegetating the sand dunes to protect them from erosion. NRM are aiming to plant 20 000 seedlings in the area this winter, and have just done 2300 over the weekend. Along with fieldwork experiments to develop their understanding of coastal processes, landforms, and human impact, students completed some coastal restoration activities…also known as weeding, to help get the next section ready for more planting.
At Aveley Secondary College even our new staff hit the ground running thanks to a comprehensive induction program and supportive teams. This ensures our newer teachers can start supporting our students’ educational and emotional wellbeing straight away. One teacher that our students already admire is Brooke Leach, who joined our Science department this year. One of the many glowing Student Voice nominations that Ms Leach received was:

Last Friday, Aveley Secondary College staff and students came together with our very own DIY Big Freeze event in support of the FightMND (Motor Neurone Disease) campaign. We set out with a goal to raise $2,500 for FightMND who fund vital research to help find a cure for MND.
Throughout the term there were various fundraising events in the lead up to our Big Freeze including a Bunnings sausage sizzle, student nomination process, a hospitality-student led hot breakfast for staff and students, an E-sport FIFA23 competition and much more. Congratulations to Henry and Abrahim who won prizes kindly donated by EB Games Midland and Woolworths Ellenbrook for the E-sport competition.
Nominated staff took the plunge into an ice-filled dunk tank as part of our fundraising campaign. The costumes were fantastic and their enthusiasm unquestionable!

Aveley Secondary College would like to remind current Year 7 , 8, 9 and 10 students wishing to be part of our Sports Elite Program for Semester 2 2023 to register for the trial at the Health and Physical Education office before Monday 19 June.
The selection process into the Semester 2 Program is comprised of a physical test based on a variety of key sport components such as strength, power, speed, agility, flexibility aerobic fitness. This trial will occur on Thursday 22 June.
Congratulations to Year 8 student Aila Flood-Kiddie who has been accepted into the SSWA State Netball U15s team. This is her third year being selected for a state team which shows her extraordinary passion and dedication to her training. This year over 300 players tried out and she was one of 15 selected for the state team.
Aila is looking forward to competing against the other states in July, putting her many years of training and the experience she gained in our Sports Elite Program last year to good use. We wish her the best of luck and know she will do her school, and the state, proud.
The Student Voice process allows students to positively recognise the ways staff support their wellbeing and education. One of our excellent English teachers, Jake Smirk, received so many Student Voice nominations this Semester that it was hard to choose just one to highlight.
“I would like to thank you for being my English teacher for countless years. You really helped me understand when I was struggling and you were always patient with me, your class taught me how to be a better student and you helped me realise how much I could achieve. So thank you.”
