The Whole School Carnival ran last Wednesday with over 1000 students participating in a variety of athletic and novelty events. It was fantastic to see so many students participating and representing their houses and our four Mutual Agreements with pride. It was a very close 1st and 2nd, with Tammar emerging victorious. Thank you to staff and the HPE team.
Competitors Carnival
The much-anticipated Aveley SC Competitors’ Carnival took place last Tuesday. 350 students nominated to attend the day to show off their athleticism and sportsmanship. The day’s highlights included impressive performances in triple jump, high jump, shot put, discus, 1500m, 800m, and hurdles. Our athletes pushed themselves to achieve their personal best and compete for the coveted Champion Boy and Champion Girl in each year group.
The final results will be calculated at the end of the Whole School Carnival. Students are encouraged to dress up in their house colours and enter novelty events to help their house win the overall trophy for 2023.
Pulse Exhibition
Year 11 Visual Arts students were exposed to innovative art practice in preparation for Year 12 units in a recent excursion to the Pulse Exhibition. The Pulse Exhibition celebrates WA’s talented young artists in this yearly showcase of the best Year 12 artworks from around the state, gauging the pulse of young people who will influence, empower and shape the world we live in.
The selected works provide a window into young people’s private, social and artistic concerns. It is an inspiring, rewarding and insightful look at the world through the minds of Western Australia’s most talented young artists and an amazing learning opportunity for our students.
Wear It Purple Day
We celebrated Wear It Purple Day, the day where we come together to promote inclusivity and celebrate diversity. Staff showed their support by wearing something purple, whether it was a purple shirt, tie, or accessory, to help make a positive statement. Staff and our Skittles group handed out purple bracelets and stickers to students entering school, with music playing and a photo wall, what a great way to start the day.
Year 10 Academic Achievers
Recently we celebrated the academic achievements of our Year 10 students with an awards luncheon. We were pleased to recognise the efforts and commitment of these students to their grades and attendance. Keep up the good work.
Rugby WA
Last week Rugby WA ran high energy sessions for our students to improve their rugby skills. They hosted five sessions during the day for students who had Physical Education. During lunchtime, they ran adrenaline-fueled touch rugby games for all students who wished to participate. Afterschool, students who stayed behind were given the opportunity to expand their rugby knowledge and practice their tackling skills using professional equipment supported by the Ellenbrook Vipers. It was great to see the students huffing and puffing from working hard with their peers. Whether they were a seasoned athlete or a newcomer to the sport, our students gave their all and showed their talent on the field.
We received some lovely feedback from Rugby WA, saying our students engaged positively and politely in all the activities. A huge thankyou to Rugby WA and the Ellenbrook Vipers for imparting their knowledge to our students.
Student Exhibitions
Congratulations to Year 11 ATAR student, Zyan Pineda whose still life painting “Time is Limited” was recently exhibited at the 2023 Young Originals Exhibition, and Year 12 student Jennifer Lacey whose artwork “Beauty Routine” was recently exhibited in META.
Congratulations Zyan and Jennifer, being displayed at these major exhibitions is a fantastic achievement!
Future Life Savers
Year 12 students have been completing their First Aid units as part of their Certificate II courses. All students have shown initiative and gained essential life saving skills that can make a difference in an emergency.

Cultural Working Group
Are you a member of the African Community and would love to support our school initiatives? We are looking for expressions of interest from two community members to join a newly set up Cultural Working Group at the school.
This group will develop culturally appropriate processes and procedures to guide staff when supporting students of African background. ASC presently has over 100 students in this CaLD group and growing. The focus is to have parent, student, and school representatives working together on this project.
If you would love to be a part of this progressive leadership opportunity, please contact Principal, Stephen Pestana on 6296 1001 or by email: stephen.pestana@education.wa.edu.au
