Today the diversity of the African Culture was showcased at Aveley SC as we celebrated African Unity Day. Students were delighted by the wonderful display of African dancing and were able to try their hand at the drums, make beaded jewellery or learn about African countries including trying to identify the different flags. The atmosphere provided a sense of self-confidence, showcased individual dynamics, self-expression and collaboration.
African Unity Day, also known as Africa day, is celebrated annually on May 25. It commemorates the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) in 1963.
